Frequently Asked Questions

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of medical and non-medical volunteers organized at the local level to support public health response to emergencies. The national network consists of over 200,000 volunteers.

For more information, visit https://aspr.hhs.gov/MRC/Pages/index.aspx

Emory MRC membership is only open to student, staff, and faculty of Emory University and Healthcare. Medical background is not required, and MRC units need volunteers who can provide education, logistics, communication, coordination, and other support.

To remain an active volunteer and be eligible for deployment activities, volunteers must participate in at least 10 hours of continuing training each calendar year or other pre-approved activities. This can include official Emory MRC activities (i.e., in-person monthly meetings, trainings, drills), completing online trainings that meet the core competencies for MRC volunteers, or other pre-approved activities.

Volunteers are expected to attend orientation and maintain current records of their professional licenses (if applicable), complete trainings, and update their volunteer information in SERVGA.

Once the applications open in early 2026, applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Leadership will review applications as quickly as possible, however, various factors may delay notice of acceptance. If it has been at least a monthsince you submitted your application and you have not heard back, you may email MRC@emory.edu for an update.

No, there are no fees involved in volunteering with the Emory MRC.
